Every order helps Toys For Tots

Helping the Less Fortunate
Every order helps a child in need
Remember:  From now through December 19th, a portion of every order will be donated to the Marine Toys For Tots foundation. This organization distributes toys and necessities to underpriviledged children during the holiday season.

Analytical Quick Tip

Do not put pipettes directly into your standard bottles. Pour some of the standard into a disposable plastic container, remove your aliquot and then discard the remainder.

Elements in Pigmentation

There are a huge number of colored lids available for sample containers. Here is a list of pigment colors that may contain at least one (and more likely two or more) of the indicated elements:

White - SO4-2, S (sulfide), Ti, Pb, Zn, Ba, Sb,Zr, Si, Al, Ca, Na, K, and Mg.

Red and Orange - Pb, Fe, Mn, As, Cr, Cd, Ba, Sb, and Hg.

Yellow - Mg, Co, K, Zn, Sr, Cr, Ba, Pb, Cd, and As.

Green - Cu, Si, Fe, Mg Al, K, As, Zn, Cr, and Pb.

Blue - Na, Al, Si, S, Fe, Mg, Ca, Al, Co, Fe, Cu, Mn, Ba, and Sn.

Purple - Co, P, and Mn.

The above was taken from the professional advice offered by Dr. Paul Gaines. Find more expert advice here.

A:  Ho-Ho-Ho

Element of the Month
Cerium

Analytical Periodic Table

Storage & Handling:  Keep tightly sealed when not in use. Store and use at 20 ± 4°C. Do not pipet from container. Do not return portions removed for pipetting to container.

Chemical Compatibility:  Soluble in HCl and HNO3. Avoid HF, H3PO4, H2SO4 and neutral to basic media. Stable with most metals and inorganic anions forming an insoluble carbonate, oxide, oxalate, and fluoride and sparingly soluble sulfates (La - Eu exhibit low sulfate solubility). Avoid mixing with elements / solutions containing moderate amounts of fluoride.

Stability:  2-100 ppb levels stable for months in 1% HNO3 / LDPE container. 1-10,000 ppm solutions chemically stable for years in 2-5 % HNO3 / LDPE container.

Ce Containing Samples (Preparation & Solution):  Metal (soluble in acids); Oxide (dissolved by heating in H2O / HNO3); Ores (carbonate fusion in Pt0 followed by HCl dissolution); Organic Matrices (dry ash and dissolve in 1:1 H2O / HCl or HNO3).
